We spend thousands of rupees on skincare products every year. Serums, creams, masks — all chemical-loaded, all expensive. And yet skin problems persist. But did you know — your kitchen already has everything your skin needs?
Why Natural Skincare?
80% of skincare products on the market contain chemicals whose long-term effects are still being studied. Parabens, sulfates, artificial fragrances — all of these disturb the skin's natural microbiome. Natural ingredients work with the skin, not against it.
It is also true that natural doesn't always mean safe — some people have allergies to certain natural ingredients. So always do a patch test. But generally, what is in the kitchen is safe for the skin.

The Morning Routine
Step 1: Cleanser — Raw milk. Apply on face with a cotton ball, wash off after 2 minutes. Milk contains lactic acid which provides gentle exfoliation and keeps skin moisturised. It works for oily, dry, and combination — all skin types.
Step 2: Toner — Rose water. This is a natural toner. It tightens pores, hydrates the skin, and reduces inflammation. You can use store-bought rose water or make your own by boiling rose petals.
Step 3: Moisturiser — Coconut oil (for dry skin) or aloe vera gel (for oily skin). Coconut oil is highly moisturising but can clog pores for some people. There is no risk with aloe vera — it is safe for all skin types.
Step 4: Sunscreen — Don't skip this step. Natural sunscreen options are limited (zinc oxide-based ones exist but are heavy). So using a good SPF 30+ sunscreen here is better.

The Night Routine
Step 1: Makeup removal — Coconut oil. Massage it onto the face in circular motions, then wash with warm water. It removes even waterproof makeup easily. Better and cheaper than micellar water.
Step 2: Deep cleanse — Besan + milk + turmeric paste. This is the classic Indian ubtan that has been used for generations. Besan removes dead skin cells, turmeric is antibacterial, milk moisturises. Apply for 5 minutes then wash off.
Step 3: Night serum — Rosehip oil or Vitamin E oil. These oils help with skin regeneration at night. Dark spots, fine lines, and dryness — effective for all of these.

Weekly Masks — Special Treatment for the Skin
Brightening mask: Turmeric + honey + yogurt. Anti-aging mask: Banana + honey + almond oil. De-tan mask: Tomato pulp + lemon juice (avoid for sensitive skin). Acne control mask: Neem powder + aloe vera + tea tree oil (diluted).
Use these masks once a week. Over-use can leave skin over-exfoliated which causes irritation. Less is more — this is the golden rule of skincare.

Care From Inside — That Shows Outside
Skincare is not only from the outside. What you eat shows on your skin. Hydration (8-10 glasses of water), omega-3 fatty acids (flax seeds, walnuts), Vitamin C (citrus fruits, amla), and sleep — all of these are more effective for your skin than any serum.
Sugar and dairy trigger acne in some people. If your skin is breakout-prone, try reducing these for a month. The results may be surprising.
The Most Important Tip
Consistency. No routine shows results before 4-6 weeks. The skin cell turnover cycle is 28-30 days. So give any new routine at least 6 weeks. Patience is the biggest skincare secret.
And remember — every skin is different. What works like magic for someone may not work for you. Experiment, observe, and understand your skin. You are your own best expert.
